Waste2Place is a collaborative effort between top research institutes, industry partners, and specialized consultancies including MEM. These will join forces under six different work packages aiming to build knowledge and practical experience across all phases of the geomorphic process. Waste2Place is set to change the way we approach mining closure operations. Our goal is to challenge the status quo.

MEM is leading the development of a novel tool for the mining industry that allows the reclassification of materials currently considered waste into useable or saleable products. The aim of the tool is to provide a high tech solution to reduce the volumes of waste produced at mine sites, realise the value locked up in material currently classified as waste, and ultimately increase sustainability of mining activities.

Waste2Place project has been carried out within the strategic innovation program Swedish Mining Innovation, a joint venture by Vinnova, Formas, a Swedish Research Council for Sustainable Development and the Swedish Energy Agency.
